With the app of my imagination, I suppose there would be a lot more reports of roaming dogs.
The shelter couldn't begin to chase after em.
How long.. how far away do we want to search
The concept is here
As that criteria is met, the user gets a notification. It could be an email or an instant beep on the phone.
When selecting roaming dog reports they could chose any distance.. 1 mile, 2 miles, 200 yards.
People I know are those I met taking photos and one of them just posted this.
"Anyone missing their puppy on Bauman Hill rd"
It is about 5 curvy miles long, so if an owner got to see it when it was posted n contacted our pal they would be in luck.
People post about roaming dogs their outside cameras picked up n could not possibly approach them, but posting the sighting on social media often gets attention of others.
By the time the owners saw the post, the pup could be long gone. IF the owner happened to be a member of that group and happened to see the post.
This group has over 7k members, the post about this dog has 49 shares and has been spotted two days from what I see.
Following post you can see how far n how long .. a pup might be roaming.

If you see a lose dog should you try to catch em? Wonder if they belong in that area and the owners would not appreciate it?
I know of those pups that were lost and never got home.
Fights with other dogs, hit by a car. Bad things happen to some dogs, so deciding to put on your heroes cape needs a bit of thought.
BUT I can't keep em, live in an apartment, won't get along with my other animals, it is the week end and the shelter is closed?
Maybe some sancutary host would keep the pup until the shelter could come n pick em up? I think some people would help but couldn't manage a weekend pup.
Some lose dogs just come to people's houses and are an easy capture. I suppose if you saw one, a capture kit would be handy, harnass, rope, tasty food...

Seeing a post tonight in this group
Anyone missing a boxer. Lost dog last seen on Eaton hollow Rd, Stray female dog in Stump Hollow area., Almost just hit this dog on tarkiln rd. Anyone know the owner, Found dog. Running on sugar grove rd, IS ANYONE MISSING A DOG IN THE SUGAR GROVE... hundreds of such post in our community.
As in other social media groups people spotting a dog and asking others "Does anyone knows where they belong."
This shelter does show photos of unclaimed dogs in their kennel but THE SHELTER DOES NOT show photos people send them of their missing dog.
When people report they have a missing dog and send photos, there is no reason the shelter can't post an album of missing dogs. No need to include the owner's info.
When the public spots a missing dog, they could look at the shelter's mug shots and the public can see if the one spotted is there, giving the owner a compass and timeline..

In the batch of all the dogs in the shelter, all of them claimed, all of em adopted.. I don't think the shelter guys were just out driving around picking them up.
The hundreds of rescued, returned and adopted pups are the results of Pup heroes.
